FAQs
Therapy is a space for conversation, and it helps when the practicalities are clear. These FAQs are here to answer common questions and to help you decide whether working together feels like the right step.
How long does therapy take?
+
Sessions are 50 minutes.
How long you stay in therapy really depends on you and what you’re bringing. I work in an open-ended way and suggest we review our work together every six sessions or when needed. This means I won't be in a rush to end, and I am also not interested in your therapy continuing forever.
We’ll check in as we go, and we’ll end when it feels right. Often, the question of ending, what it brings up, and what “ready” feels like is meaningful therapeutic work in itself.

Will you be mostly quiet in sessions?
+
No. While I do allow space for you to explore and bring whatever feels important, my way of working is collaborative and relational, so it's a conversation not a monologue.
I will mostly respond to you, comment, ask some questions, offer different perspectives or a reframe. If it feels relevant, I might also share what I am noticing in the room, happening between us.
Our work might also hold moments of silence which we can hold together.

Do you give advice?
+
Yes and no. I won’t tell you how to live your life or make decisions for you. I am also not here to ‘fix’ you.
What I can offer is professional insight, helping you to make sense of your patterns and difficult emotions. The aim is to facilitate you to process, make sense and feel your emotions, not necessarily give life advice.

What if we aren’t a good fit?
+
That’s completely okay! The first session is a chance to get a feel for each other and for how I work.
If it feels right, we might agree to start with a block of six sessions and review from there. And if, at any point, it doesn’t feel like the right fit, we’ll talk about it openly.
If helpful, I can suggest colleagues or services that might suit what you’re looking for.

How much does it cost?
+
My fee is £60 per session. I usually book week by week, and payment is made the same way.
Do you offer concessions?
+
I offer a limited number of concession spaces. If cost is a barrier, you’re welcome to ask about availability.
How do I pay?
+
Payment is by bank transfer or cash and is usually made on the day of the session (details provided when we agree to work together).
Who is psychotherapy for?
+
Anyone can find themselves needing support at different points in life. Therapy can help when you’re going through a difficult time, feeling stuck, repeating patterns you don’t fully understand, or simply wanting to know yourself better.
I work with adults (16+) who feel able to commit to weekly sessions, either in person in Edinburgh or online.

Can I contact you between sessions?
+
Yes, for practical things. If we work together, you can email or message me to cancel or rearrange an appointment.
I don’t generally offer therapeutic support by message between sessions, except in exceptional circumstances that we would agree together. This boundary protects my other professional commitments, but it also helps keep therapy contained and consistent.
